Job Title: Apprentice Quantity Surveyor
Summary of Role
Quantity surveyors assist in the management of costs relating to construction projects to ensure overall financial success of a project. They calculate the amount and cost of materials needed for building work and are responsible for the financial management of a number of sub-contractors (e.g. bricklayers, scaffolders, ground workers etc.) across a construction project and manage the contractual/legal elements of a project.
What you will be doing:
- Participate in the analysis, preparation, and management of all costs, from initial cost assessments through to project completion
- Selection and management of suppliers and sub-contractors
- Become an expert in contracts, financial management and contract law
- Assist with the monthly/quarterly compilation of data to monitor the performance of the project
- To meet with other professionals, clients, customers and others to obtain and provide information relating to land, property or construction
- To undertake costings and/or measurements and/or valuations using data collected from research
- the buying of materials and services from smaller companies
- the monitoring and management of these smaller companies to ensure that goods are delivered and work is completed on time
- To ensure requests for payment are made on time and on a regular basis to the business for whom we are working and that these payments are received and payments to smaller companies are made promptly
Desired Skills, Qualities, and Experience (all essential):
- Minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above. A grade 5 in Maths. A Level DD or
BTEC National Diploma PPP or Access to HE Diploma with 21 Merits or Level 3 Apprenticeship in related subject or Equivalent level 3 qualifications worth 64 UCAS points
- Enthusiastic and passionate about a career in engineering.
- Eager to develop new skills and knowledge in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
- Good level of Attendance, self-discipline and time management. Meeting deadlines, managing multiple tasks effectively.
- There is a minimum age requirement to be at least 18 years old by 1st September 2026.
About the apprenticeship
You will be studying towards a Level 4 Construction Design & Build Technician Apprenticeship at Dudley College of Technology - DY1 4AS
When not studying, you will work alongside our experienced Engineers delivering a real project engineering role. You may be expected to travel to different sites within a geographical region. You will need to manage your time and commitments well to ensure that you are able to complete your assignments whilst delivering a highly valued role.
In addition to developing your core skills, you will be expected to support and carry out additional activities across our projects and service delivery. This may include project site assessments, supporting project documentation, assisting with technical surveys, and contributing to project planning and coordination activities. These responsibilities will provide valuable hands-on experience across the full spectrum of project delivery while contributing to overall project success and will complement your technical development as you progress through the apprenticeship program

GRADES: You will be required to provide your Grades prior to selection for the Assessment Centre & Interview
The assessment centre for this programme will take place on Thursday 16th July in Manchester
